Vivien Teu is an investment funds and financial services legal expert based in Hong Kong, with a market-leading practice on ESG and impact investing.

With more than 25 years of experience across capital markets, financial institutions and the asset management industry, Vivien brings deep expertise in financial services, financial and securities regulatory matters, funds formation, investment and finance transactions.

She is widely recognised for her in-depth understanding of ESG legal and regulatory issues, and for her ability to integrate cutting-edge sustainability and regulatory considerations into her advisory and transactional work.

Since launching her first ESG and impact law practice in 2018, Vivien has built an extensive portfolio of transactions and advisory projects spanning diverse capital types, ESG issues, and asset classes, across public and private markets. She advises both for-profit and non-profit organisations, often involving hybrid structures and a range of fund structures and financing instruments.

She has been particularly active in impact ecosystem building, contributing to standard setting and industry engagements on sustainability, ESG and impact issues and sustainable finance, specifically in the investment and capital markets, from regulatory, legal and policy perspectives.

Prior to establishing her own practice, Vivien had gained solid industry experience from strategic roles throughout her career, including senior in-house legal experience with global asset management firm Invesco, as well as practising at various law firms specialising in international funds, asset management and financial services, such as magic circle law firm Clifford Chance and global law firm Dentons.

During her time at Dentons, Vivien was a partner and head of asset management and ESG in Hong Kong. She took on key global ESG roles, including sustainable finance lead on Dentons’ Global ESG Steering Committee, Global Funds Leaders Group and Global Financial Institutions Practice Group. In these positions, she helped drive impact focus within mainstream finance and capital markets, working closely with colleagues across regions and sectors on legal, regulatory and compliance matters in relation to ESG and sustainability issues, sustainable finance, impact investing and impact finance.
